Macmillan Publishers Corporate Volunteer Day on Governors Island

With 172 acres of park to care for and a small horticulture team, volunteers are crucial to providing critical care to Governors Island. The Macmillan Publishers group made a huge impact toward meeting the rigorous demands of stewarding the Island’s new and historic landscapes.

We were able to remove encroaching turf and weeds along 150 feet of paths leading up Discovery Hill on the southern end of Governors Island. Volunteers helped slow the spread of weeds, provide welcoming and safe passageway to Discovery Hill’s summit and also contributed 150 gallons of organic material to compost that will be used across the Island.
